OPEN FORUM ON DEVELOMENT POLICIES AND STRATEGIES OF SRI LANKA IN ENSUING 10 YEAR PERIOD

Now the three decade long war has ended. Initiatives for nation building are underway. As a nation we all need to rethink our development strategies that will bring wellbeing, happiness and prosperity to all. Therefore, we need to promote a ‘Dialogue’ on the way forward towards prosperity. This is not the sole responsibility of the government but the academics, researchers, professionals and intelligentsia of this country can contribute to form a collective development vision. Open dialogue and consultation is the hallmark of Good Government. These two ingredients – dialogue and consultation can enhance both policy formulation and its implementation, while ensuring that community issues are fully considered and addressed in the decision making process.

Hence, SLFI has initiated an open dialogue to facilitate and provide a neutral platform to express the views, opinions and constructive suggestions for developing the nation. This forum is not intended as a one way channel of communication but it provides a channel through which the intelligentsia of this country as well Sri Lankan intelligentsia living in other countries of the world can actively participate in the decision making process. The issues tackled at this forum should not confine to theoretical or conceptual matters divorced from the real work of development policy making. Ultimate objective of this forum is to provide recommendations to guide future government policy.

Initially, we have identified the following four areas for discussion.

1. Education
2. Health
3. Economy
4. Agriculture

What should be the policies and strategies for developing the above areas within the next 10 year period?

Please take part in the forum and give your comments, views, opinion and suggestions.
